I finally am finishing up/realizing an art project that has been in the works, then paused, and now being finished. I took pictures of every meal for 39 days, and I'm going to display them on the wall in a straight shot, 20 feet worth of food. That's a lot of food.

Appeared most: ....not chicken fingers, suprisingly, but Yogurt, with 29 tallies, or about 26% of the total food.

Anyways, my post for today is about:

Butterflies.

They have been stalking me (figuratively). In Spanish class, we are reading La lengua de las mariposas (The Butterfly's Tongue), and watching the movie of it. In drawing class, for our fears project, someone was afraid of butterflies, and then the teacher asked if she had seen the movie The Butterfly Effect. I am now writing a paper about that story, as well as watching The Butterfly Effect, which is on tv. Also, people keep sending me buttrerflies on Farmville, just not the Zebra one I need.

My mother and I went to the "Indie Craft Revolution" art show (or some name like that) and I got some awesome tiny-grilled-cheese earrings. (mousemarket.etsy.com<--I don't know why that link doesn't work...). She also had a ton of other tiny food, like chocolate chip cookies, and bananas, and pretzels, and way more! On Friday, there was a wheel throwing demonstration by a college professor form Blackburn College. I was really excited, but then I remembered I was thinking of Black Mountain College, a.k.a. The Awesomest College Ever. The demo was still way cool though. It started at 10, and I planned on getting up early to go. I didn't, and went to the artist lecture and then the demo afterward instead. Just in time for the coolest part, with giant pots, and funny stories.

The giantest pots were thrown in 3 different pieces and attatched while on the wheel, which is a really cool idea, since I had always wondered how they made things that were taller thenn themselves! The giant bowl was one piece though, which is also pretty way cool.

I got sick of getting a pen put of my backpack, finding it to be empty, only to try another one and have it also be empty. So I decided to organize my pens and recycle the empty ones and whatnot. Here's what I ended up with :

Pens that work, liquidy pens that work, pens that don't work, crayons, Sharpies, tiny colored pencils, regular pencils, highliters, a green marker, a nail file, a weird needle tool I found somewhere, a blue pastel, two pencil sharpeners, and a whole 'nother bunch of recycled newspaper pencils.

That was all in my pencil organizer in my top drawer of my desk. Now its organized-ish. Yay for pens that work!

After having ordered a tiny computer from Dell online and having it delayed for a few months, we gave up on that and today my mom came home with a brand new fancy way cool laptop for my Christmas gift, using gift money from her and my wonderful Grandfather. Therefore...

Thanks for the awesome Christmas gift Mom, Mark and Grandpa! Its way awesome and way cooler than my old one that is physically and virtually broken and way to huge to be properly considered a "portable computer."

Hello Winter

Today walking back from class this evening there were tiny tiny tiny tiny snowflakes that I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't been looking for them after having read Mom's blog the other day.

Bad News: Within the last hourish, my throat hurts, as if I were perhaps getting sick. I know, I know, that can't be, because Kayla never get sick ever....Hmmm....stay tuned for updates.

Today was, suprisingly, the first time I have significantly injured myself this semester. Significantly meaning, of course, worse than the bumps, bruises, and cuts that I discover almost daily that have appeared before my eyes...but still not worthy of any type of medical aid whatsoever. Also suprisingly, today's injuries did NOT occur in or during my Sculpture class, and I have been in there a lot, using all kinds of power saws, air-pressure-driven nail gun type things, and even...*gasp* wood glue.

The first of these injuries occurred in the ceramics studio whilst attempting to attatch a wheel caster to a dolly to push around heavy buckets of clay and whatnot. The reason for this injury (blood blister, the first one I think I've ever had, and it was quite painful), was whoever invented the flathead screw's fault. That was just a dumb design: the flat bit gradually slides itself out of the flat slot, therefore letting the power drill come crashing down onto the user's finger flesh. Thanks, Phillip, for making a new and better version of the screw.

The second injury came from extruding clay. Yet again surprisingly, I was NOT injured in the way one would conclude to be the most likely manner of injury using an extruder: Having the metal bar fall on the user's head. Instead, I just pinched some finger-skin in between the metal parts. The bruising doesn't show up too well in the photo, but trust me, its blue, purple, and orange-red.

And unfortunately (or perhaps its actually fortunate), both sites of injury are on the same hand. On the left, though, so that is fortunate, since I still have a lot of drawing to do this week.

Isn't this such a cute cat breed? I learned about them while watching Cats 101 on Animal Planet. (Don't judge me, I'm a college student who has the right to watch weird/dumb stuff on tv on the weekends). It has curly, three-layered hair and was "invented" in Wyoming, from the breeding of persians and ...some mutt cat with weird hair. For real, I looked it up just now.

I went to a screenprinting workshop on Friday with the graphic design club at school. I didn't have a t-shirt to print on, so I brought a bag. It didn't work very well...Its supposed to be a purple square with AIGA on it.

But on the bright side, screenprinting is AWESOME and I have a huge list already of cool stuff I'm going to make. For free. With the supplies they bought for us AIGA club members. I went to the studio to "experiment" tonight but I forgot that they forgot to give us the combination for the supplies closet. But as soon as I get it, SCREENPRINTING will be happenin'. Oh yeah.

An Aspergian World

Through my Aspergian eyes,
I see others. Their world
overlaps mine like a threadbare blanket
or the soles of a favorite pair of socks.

Theirs is a world of crowds and noise;
of chaos and time
that slides away slowly like soapsuds
in the sink.

Mine is a life of solitude, of myself, of habit and pattern:
of lists and sticky notes
lined up in rows like the Soldiers Of Schedule;
of routine and an occasional vacation:
a short venture
from under my blanket.

They can’t begin to understand my sensational world
that’s right in front of their eyes.
Right underneath their own,
another dimension,
a parallel universe.

A world full of sharp, intense
experience. Textures, smells, light and shadow,
precision, placement, aesthetics and juxtaposition.
Euphoria, fear, anxiety and contentment.

Technology Problems/Solutions

So, as some of you readers may know, I had to restart my laptop from factory mode, because...I have no idea why, I had some kind of virus or something and I didn't know how to fix it. Neither does anyone I know.

But now its fixed, except I had a huge problem. Huge for me. I have my iPod, with a little over 2,000 songs on it. I connected it to my computer after having restarted it all, and I couldn't figure out, even after extensive research on the Internets, how to get my music FROM my iPod TO my iTunes. I guess they don't want you to do that. Because there are theify types out there. I just want my own music on my own computer, but I guess that's not allowed.

The good news: I found some cool programs that were secretly hidden on my computer....by "secretly hidden" I mean, they have boring names and I never bothered to check and see what they were. So I deleted iTunes off my computer, and moved my music from the iPod to the Windows Media Player, which works fine.

WHY is this relevant to anyone but me?
I'll tell ya!

***Please don't buy me iTunes gift cards as gifts anymore, because even though I did love that gift idea, I no longer have iTunes, so it wouldn't work too well. ;-)

I have no idea what they are doing, but there has been a construction crew on campus for a few days. The part that affects me is that they blocked off the close entrance to the Art Building, so now I have to go all the way around the quad and through another building (utilizing the far door since the close one is blocked off), then backtrack to the front entrance to the Art Building. It takes forever, and I can't even sneak through the construction zone because I saw these signs today (inconveniently located on the side where not a lot of people would want to be sneaking through).

I bought a cool mini-teapot necklace from the artist that came to college to give a lecture/demo: Junya Shao. She makes contemporary teapots in the old -school tradition of her hometown in China (Yixing) where they basically throw pots all day. Coolness. A lot of her pieces are made to look like wood, bamboo, or other materials, I like them a lot. My necklace is made of blue clay from there. And heres another cool teapot that looks like wood.
